Please join with other scout leaders and scouts from the Iron Horse District as we celebrate BSA’s 100th birthday this year.
For 1OO years, the Boy Scouts of America has been helping the youth of America find — in themselves and the world around them —more than they thought possible. In every era, and through numerous trends of the past century, Scouting has been steadfast. Our 1OOth Anniversary provides a unique opportunity to celebrate this heritage and lay the foundation for the next 1OO years. Keep your calendars open for these exciting events in the Sam Houston Area Council, celebrating the 100th year of scouting!

Family Friends of Scouting 2010
Dear Friends and Families of the Scouting Program, We would like to thank you for your support of the Scouting program. Tough economic times have not gone away and neither has the need for your support.
Our 2010 Campaign has kicked off and we are currently asking each Cub Scout Pack, Boy Scout Troop, and Venture Crew to set a date in February, or March 2010 for a short presentation telling the quick story of why the Friends of Scouting program is so important and needed. There are multiple ways to sign up for a presentation. Contact your District Executive at Roundtable and sign up or contact your District Executive via phone or e-mail and let them know the date. You can share your presentation date with your Commissioner and they will be happy to bring the information back to the District Committee.
As the challenges of our economy increase, so does the need for your support. Please consider a family presentation in 2010.

Scouting for Food - UPDATE
From Ed Welling, SHAC Scouting for Food Chairman
Thanks to the hard work of over 11,000 Scouts and adults and the generosity of our community , we were able to report to the Souper Bowl of Caring that our 2010 Scouting for Food campaign was responsible for over 211,000 pounds of food to be collected and delivered today to food pantries throughout our council. Thank you for making this happen!
We had many reports of receiving pantries simply amazed and incredibly grateful for the volume of food we were able to provide them. Other reports described just how much the Scouts (and adults) enjoyed being involved. Scouts having fun and doing good – I think that BP proposed that concept just about one hundred years ago. It still works.
At 6 pm when we reported to Souper Bowl, we still had a few units counting and delivering so we fully expect the detailed district reports due to Frank on Wednesday to be even better.
Thank you again for your part in making this a truly Centennial quality event.
